In this blog post LADZ Wrap N Tint Cheltenham explain how we do a vinyl wrap accident repair on a clients vehicle after the bumper had been damaged in a scrape he had in his beautiful B8 Audi A4.
One of the many great things about vinyl wrapping is that each panel can be wrapped individually so there is no need to do any panel blending with the paint as there would be with a paint respray. With a paint respray there will usually be some blending in to do to the adjacent panels which adds to the overall cost of the accident repair.
What we did for this repair was remove the existing vinyl wrap off of the front bumper, repair, sand and prime the damaged area, then re-wrap the entire bumper in the exact same vinyl wrap colour. Here we will take a thorough look at the entire process from beginning to end.
We begin the vinyl wrap repair.
First things first we needed to remove the old vinyl wrap from the front bumper. Once we had done this we applied some filler to all the damaged areas. The filler can be seen in dark grey in the above picture. Even though the damage is mainly on the offside (passenger side) we had to remove the vinyl wrap from the entire front bumper because it is vinyl wrapped as one piece.
The next phase was to sand down the excess filler so that the surface is nice and smooth. There was also a bit of residue left over from where we removed the old wrap so we used some 90% isopropil alcohol to help loosen it up to aid removal of that. Once we had done this the bumper looked like this.
Going the extra mile.
What we also did while we were at it was to sort out a few imperfections on the offside (drivers side) area of the front bumper. We will not be charging the client any extra for this service because a) it wasn’t a massive job and b) we had the sandpaper out anyway.
There were a few marks that were general road rash and a small painted area that didn’t quite look right to us as there was a definitive line that would have shown up under the new wrap if left untreated. Below is a picture of the additional work done to the offside.
So now that the entire bumper has been prepped thoroughly it is now ready for the actual vinyl wrap to be applied. The manufacturer of this vinyl wrap is Orafol and this particular colour is Oracal 196MRA Matt Night Blue Metallic. Along with being a superb colour it is also a very nice quality wrap to work with.
Applying the vinyl wrap.
After all of the prep work the actual wrapping of the bumper went really well, here are a couple of pictures that we took mid-wrap. The first one is of the nearside of the front bumper where the main damage was, and the second photo shows the offside wrap of the bumper in progress.
All that remained then was to wrap the towing eye cover and the two headlight washer covers and re-attach the fog light surrounds.
Below is a picture of the completed job. We think that it looks superb, but more importantly, so did our client!
Do you have a damaged vinyl wrap?
Maybe you own a wrapped vehicle and parts of the wrap are starting to show signs of wear-and-tear. Maybe you have some road rash on the bonnet or front bumper. Sadly with the atrocious state of most of our roads this is inevitable. Maybe there’s a slight imperfection that has been bugging you for a while. Or maybe (as in the case of our client with this A4) you have had a minor scrape and need a vinyl wrap accident repair doing.
In all cases this is certainly something that we will be able to help you with. We can re-wrap individual panels for you and address any imperfections that the vehicle bodywork may have.
